Head Coach Mark Johnston - Email

Mark Johnston is a former University of South Alabama All-American where he played under the tutelage of the former major league great Eddie Stanky. While in college he was selected as a member of the baseball team that represented the United States in the World Cup Games played in Nicaragua – the team won a Silver Medal.

He was named an All-American in 1978 and the New York Yankees selected Johnston as their third-round draft choice. His professional career includes playing in the Single A and Double A affiliates of the Yankees and the Milwaukee Brewers, as well as being the hitting coach for the Triple A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs where his squad led the league in hitting.

Johnston was an assistant to Mississippi State's legendary Coach Ron Polk, where the Bulldogs won the SEC Championship, and has also been an assistant to Spring Hill College Coach Frank Sims, working with hitters and outfielders.

Johnston earned a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of South Alabama, an MBA from Mississippi State, and a MEd from USA. In May 2007, he was inducted into the University of South Alabama Sports Hall of Fame.

He and his wife, Cheryl, have three children – Jeff, Johanna, and Maggie Rose.
