February 12, 2014 Bishop State Community College President James Lowe Jr. announced today the endorsements of the Electrical Technology and Welding Technology programs by the Central Gulf Industrial Alliance (CGIA). The mission of CGIA is to improve industry performance by developing, sharing, and promoting best practices in the areas of workforce development, work safety, quality, and productivity. Four community colleges in Southwest Alabama participated in the endorsement process – Bishop State, Faulkner State, Jefferson Davis, and Reid State. The rigorous endorsement process included an on-site visit; a tour of the college’s classrooms and laboratory facilities; interviews with the instructors and staff; and a review of the curriculums and business and industry engagement. The review team included CGIA members who are major industrial employers such as Austal USA, BAE Systems Southeast Shipyards, and Ingalls Shipbuilding.
