Mobile, AL – USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park announced the 2016-17 USS Alabama Crewmates, who were selected to serve as ambassadors for Battleship Memorial Park and the state of Alabama for the coming year.
Heather MacDonald from Pensacola FL, and a sophomore at Bishop State Community College was one of only 6 young ladies selected by a panel of judges. She is a majoring in respiratory therapy at the college and is the daughter of Karen and Ken MacDonald.
This is the 49th year of the USS Alabama Crewmate program. The Crewmates will make personal appearances throughout the state to promote Battleship Memorial Park. Their other duties include welcoming visitors, working with state representatives during Distinguished Young Women finals week, participating in local parades and representing the USS Alabama and USS Drum during Veterans Day celebrations.
Janet Cobb who is the executive director stated that "these outstanding young women are superb ambassadors for the state of Alabama and Battleship Memorial Park. We welcome them to the USS Alabama family."
Heather MacDonald will receive a $2,000 scholarship to the college of her choice. The young women named Miss USS Alabama and Miss USS Drum will earn additional scholarship awards of $1,000 and $500, respectively.
