Bishop State Community College Foundation will host its 2015 Scholarship Gala featuring guest speaker Dr. Lonnie G. Johnson, on Thursday, April 23, 2015, at 7:00 PM on the Baker-Gaines Central Campus in the Yvonne Kennedy Auditorium.

Mobile, Alabama – Bishop State Community College Foundation will host its 2015 Scholarship Gala on Thursday, April 23, 2015, at 7:00 pm.
The event will be held at the Baker-Gaines Central Campus of Bishop State, located at 1365 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue in the Yvonne Kennedy Auditorium. Tickets to the event are available at the campus bookstore for $100 per person. Donations to the Bishop State Community College Foundation in support of its mission to provide scholarships to students in need may be mailed to the following address.

This year’s guest speaker will be Lonnie G Johnson, Ph.D. President & CEO of Excellatron in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Lonnie Johnson, a bonafide "rocket scientist’', has just one mission—to ensure the world has enough energy for a prosperous future. Although he has devoted his life to solving some of the world's most complex technological problems, he is best known for his widely popular invention, the Super Soaker water gun. Dr. Johnson is a prolific inventor and holds more than 100 patents, the vast majority of which are energy-related.
Johnson is a graduate of Williamson High School and holds a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, a master's in Nuclear Engineering and an honorary doctorate in Science from Tuskegee University. He served as a Space Nuclear Power Safety Officer in the U.S. Air Force, where he analyzed NASA space systems that utilized nuclear power sources. During active duty assignments in the Air Force and tours as an employee at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, he helped develop some of the nation's most advanced technological achievements including the Galileo mission to Jupiter, the Mars Observer Project and the Cassini Mission to Saturn and the Stealth Bomber (B-2). He has received numerous honors including two Air Force Commendation Medals, an Air Force Achievement Medal and a number of NASA awards.
Bishop State Community College is a state-supported, open-admission, urban community college located in Mobile, Alabama. The College consists of four city campuses, dedicated to serving the residents of Mobile and Washington counties in southwest Alabama. The College is part of the Alabama Community College System, the state-supported network of two-year community, and technical colleges that serves the residents of Alabama.
