(MOBILE, Ala. August 16, 2021) - Bishop State held its third Lineworker Training Program Graduation Ceremony on Monday, August 16, 2021 at 10 a.m. on the Southwest Campus. 21 lineworkers graduated from the program and will be interviewed on Wednesday and Thursday to potentially land jobs with area utility companies and contractors.

Out of 367 applications submitted, only 21 students were selected. These students range in age from 18-40 years old and are from all over the state of Alabama including Birmingham, Auburn, Selma, as well as Mobile, Baldwin, and Escambia Counties.

"This nine-week lineworker training program can truly change people's lives," says Daphne Stamps, Industry Liasion for Bishop State. "They have worked hard and never been late or complained even in 98+ temperatures. Their commitment to this program and the wonderful Alabama Power instructors has made them a great group of trainees. We are so proud of them and their sacrifice and look forward to seeing where this career takes them."

Right now, the lineworker training program has a 100% pass rate and a 100% job placement rate.

This program is in partnership with Alabama Power and various utility companies as well as the Southwest Alabama Partnership for Training and Employment (SWAPTE) and the Alabama Career Center.
