In honor of Physical Therapy Month, students in our Physical Therapist Assistant program have been active in the community, finding meaningful ways to give back.
Donations to Twin Oaks
One highlight was their recent donation to Twin Oaks Rehabilitation and HealthCare Center. The PTA students gathered gently used equipment to support Twin Oaks’ patients and caregivers, including about eight wheelchairs and a high/low mat. High/low mats can be used during transfers as well as an area patients can sit or lie on during therapy treatments. These valuable resources will enhance the level of care and mobility support available at the center, truly making a difference in the lives of residents. Twin Oaks is a facility owned and operated by Ball Healthcare Services.
5K on the Runway
PTA students also gave their time by volunteering at the 5K on the Runway event with the Mobile Airport Authority. Devon Calametti, Director of Marketing & Communications for the Authority and event coordinator, shared her gratitude in a letter, praising our students for their dependability and the valuable support they provided throughout the event."I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the Bishop State students who volunteered at the BFM 5K on the Runway. Your enthusiasm and willingness to step in wherever needed truly made a difference in the success of this event!
"I was so impressed with how each of you approached your tasks—with such positive attitudes and a genuine eagerness to help. It’s always a pleasure to work with students from Bishop State, and this event was no exception. I know I can always count on your team to bring energy and a can-do spirit, no matter what the job!
"Please pass along my sincere thanks to everyone who helped. We couldn’t have done it without your support, and we look forward to partnering with you again in the future!"
