Dr. Synthia Saint James, a world renowned multicultural visual artist most noted for designing the first Kwanzaa stamp for the United States Postal Service, and for the national and international cover art of Terry McMillan’s book Waiting to Exhale, will engage with students during a lecture at Bishop State. Dr. Saint James is an author and illustrator of 27 books, who has garnered numerous prestigious awards in her 45+ plus year career. She has also written or illustrated for several poetry and affirmation books, a cookbook, a play, a monologue, and the autobiographical book titled Living My Dream: An Artistic Approach to Marketing (which was nominated for a NAACP Image Award in 2012). Saint James will conduct a student lecture Thursday, March 1, 2018 from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. at the Bishop State Community College Main Campus in the Yvonne Kennedy Business Technology Center. Student ID is required to attend. Dr. Saint James will also serve as the keynote speaker for the Bishop State Community College Foundation Scholarship Gala. Tickets for the gala are available now. The Gala will take place at the History Museum of Mobile Thursday, March 1, 2018. On that same night, a solo two-month exhibition of Dr. Saint James’ artwork will open at the History Museum of Mobile. She will have 20 pieces of her artwork on display March through April.
