PLACEMENT TESTING
Students entering the Barbering and Hairstyling program must take the COMPASS entrance exam (required by the Alabama State Board of Education) or provide documented proof of exemption.
The Barbering and Hair Styling program is designed to provide students with the specialized background needed to become a qualified barber/stylist.
The program provides education and training experiences in current technology and future trends that will prepare students for employment. Because of the ever-changing nature of the profession, it is an exciting, challenging, and rewarding career choice.
The Barbering and Hair Styling program includes academic courses and technical courses that provide instruction and clinical experience in barbering and hair styling techniques. Instruction includes both theory and practical experiences in all phases of hair cutting and styling, shampooing, shaving, massage, facials and scalp treatments.
Barbers who practice in Mobile County must have a Mobile County Barber Commission’s license. To be eligible to apply for the licensure examination, the Commissioner requires that students graduate from the program.
