What is Dual Enrollment?
Dual Enrollment allows eligible high school students receive college credit while satisfying requirements for their high school diplomas. Students can save time and jumpstart their college education and career.
The goal of Dual Enrollment is to increase college access, improve rates of completion, and prepare students to enter the workforce with the skills they need to succeed. Classes are conducted on the various campuses of Bishop State and in local high schools.
Benefits
- Courses taught by credentialed community college instructors and qualified high school instructors
- Students are more likely to enroll in college right out of high school, earning a higher GPA in their first year of college
- College-level classes will build confidence and encourage those students who may not have been thinking about college to enroll after high school
- College courses remain on the student's regular college transcript
- Access to all college resources
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be in the 10th, 11th, or 12th grade (students are considered in the 10th grade during the fall of their sophomore year)
- 2.5 cumulative unweighted GPA on 4.0 scale for academic coursework
- 2.0 cumulative unweighted GPA on 4.0 scale for career and technical education coursework
- Approval from high school counselor
Admission Application Process
- Complete an Online Application for Dual Enrollment.
- Complete the Statement of Eligibility Form with authentic signatures from the student, parent, and high school counselor.
- Submit an official high school transcript reflecting GPA.
- Students who are attempting to take math or English classes must have the appropriate ACT or ACCUPLACER scores prior to being enrolled in the class. For the ACT, a minimum score of 20 is required in math, and a minimum score of 18 is required in English. For ACCUPLACER, a minimum score of 267 is required in math, and a minimum score of 5 is required in English.
Courses Offered
Course availability varies between high schools. Students are required to meet the appropriate prerequisites prior to enrollment in specific courses. Prerequisites include, but are not limited to, ACT score, placement testing guidelines, and/or sequential course requirements. If your high school does not offer dual enrollment courses, you can look into our Accelerated High School Program for college credit only.
